Border Ranges 5th September 2026

The run through the Border Ranges can take a fair bit of time so we arranged to meet at Rathdowney Information Centre at 8am. We had 3 vehicles, Scott and son Jacob, Maddy and Peter, Don and Tracey The early start was a treat in itself as the weather was perfect for a day trip.

From Rathdowney we headed along Running Creek Road that became Lions Road. Lions Road had been closed for a couple years to fix damage caused by heavy rain. After stopping at the rail Border Loop lookout we headed off Lions Road into the Border Ranges along gravel roads.
We fitted in visits to the lookouts and a couple of short walks into the rainforest. It was surprisingly cool considering it was a hot day in Brisbane.

In previous trips we turned back at Barrs Mountain due to road closures, but on this trip we were able to complete the full drive across the Border Ranges and headed down to Uki and the Mt Warning pub for lunch. We arrived at about 1:30 just as the band was setting up for an afternoons entertainment.

We headed home along the motorway. A great day out with great company.
